"Wide Awake"
by: Shelly Crane
Publisher: Createspace Independent Publishing Platform
Released: March 26, 2013
Length: 198 pages

Synopsis:

A girl.

A coma.
A life she can't remember.

When Emma Walker wakes up in the hospital with no knowledge of how she got there, she learns that she's been in a coma for six months. Strangers show up and claim to be her parents, but she can't remember them. She can't remember anyone. Not her friends, not even her boyfriend. Even though she can't remember, everyone wants her to just pick up where she left off, but what she learns about the 'old her' makes her start to wish she'd never woken up. Her boyfriend breaks up with the new girl he's dating to be with her, her parents want her to start planning for college, her friends want their leader back, and her physical therapist with the hazel eyes keeps his distance to save his position at the hospital.

Will she ever feel like she recognizes the girl in the mirror?

EXCERPT:

He smiled that Mason smile that set me on fire all over. Then he put one hand on the other side on the hospital bed and the other lifted toward my face. I waited, bated breath, gulping, sweaty palms, fluttering eyes, the works. His face got so close before he stopped. I thought he had decided against whatever he was doing he waited so long. I began to pull back in disappointment, but he reached behind my neck gently and pulled me to him. The barest of touches was the best way to describe our first kiss. It wasn't really a kiss at all. His bottom lip barely brushed my top one. When he leaned back and opened his eyes, he must've seen the confusion and frustration in my face.
He chuckled. "I just had to taste that coconut…" he licked his lips, "but I don't want to kiss you when you've been angry at me and I messed up our date." He said 'date'. Like…a date. "I want to kiss you when if we go another second without it, one of us will combust."
My breaths were raging. I tried to calm myself. "I…" I failed.
"I want to give you back your first kiss, the one that jerk stole from you. And I want it to be something that even a coma can't make you forget."

Review:

“Wide Awake” by Shelly Crane

I received this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

Shelly Crane Rocks! This 5 STAR writer sky-rocketed to my top favorite authors list. The rest of her books made their way to the top of my to be read list too. I’m anxious to read her other series now more than ever. I’ve always heard such amazing things about Shelly’s work, and have been wanting to read her books for a while, but there’s just so many good books in the world it’s hard to get to everything as fast as you want to. Well, I am definitely making it a point to read her other work soon. I’ve already went out and purchased most of her books on ebook and will jump right into them. Miss Shelly Crane is an author that you should plan on seeing around for a while...she’s not going anywhere anytime soon if she keeps up this fabulous writing style of hers.

It’s no secret that I love to read. I am a book fiend, completely addicted to the Contemporary Romance genre. If you are a fan of this genre as well, specifically Young Adult, I definitely recommend adding “Wide Awake” by the talented Shelly Crane to your reading list. I’m upset I waited so long to get to reading her books! But now that I got a taste of what Shelly Crane is capable of, I’m going back for seconds...well, more than seconds actually since she has a whole bunch of books that I will be reading.

It takes a talented author to not only write a good story with a good plot, but to also develop such real characters that you can’t help but love...or hate. Each character in “Wide Awake” made me feel something, whether it was love, heartbreak, sympathy, annoyance, or compassion. All the characters, both lead and supporting, were so well written. As for the plot, I personally didn’t come across any holes in it. Everything read very smoothly.

I don’t want to give away any spoilers for “Wide Awake” whatsoever. I hate spoilers so much, that I honestly hardly ever even read the synopsis anymore! I just like opening the book and reading and learning what happens that way, without even the slightest hint of what might happen. So, I won’t write anything right here that you couldn’t find in the synopsis yourself, okay?

Shelly Crane’s “Wide Awake” is about a high school girl that was in a coma for six months. Upon waking up, she doesn’t remember anything...and I mean nothing at all. She has no clue who the people in the room are...the man and woman claiming to be her parents...or the boy who comes in trying to kiss her. She doesn’t know if she’s Emma or Emmie...or “babykins” - eww! And it’s just a tad bit hard to pick up your life right where you left off - like all your friends and family want you to do - when you don’t even remember who you used to be. The only things Emma knows about her old life is what people tell her, and quite frankly she doesn’t want to be that girl again. She wants to live her life the way she is now...and perhaps have it include the hot, hazel eyed therapist Mason. He’s the only one who’s not pressuring her to be anyone other than who she is now. Plus, he’s fun. It’d just be easier to be with Mason if it wasn’t a forbidden relationship since she’s his patient.

So you see how good this book sounds right? It’s definitely a 5 STAR read, that Young Adult Contemporary Romance fans will love. If you love strong characters, both male and female...”Wide Awake” has them! I absolutely loved Emma and Mason. Mason is just the perfect guy. He’s smart, caring, and completely selfless. Add that to a tattooed hot guy, and you have the complete package. Emma is a strong girl that didn’t cave to the pressures around her. She did what felt right to her, regardless of everyone else’s thoughts and I respected that about her. I could go on and on about the characters and everything else in this book because everything was just so good...but this review is already so long! I suggest just running out and buying this book right away and reading it for yourself. Then, when you’re done reading it, go out and buy all of Shelly Crane’s other books. I’ll be reading those books and writing my reviews for each of them soon too! When you’re done reading, and if you liked it as much as I did, you should write a review also. Reviews help authors and readers alike!!

Happy Reading!!
