Hey Kristen! How are you today? I want to thank you for taking the time out of your busy life to answer a few questions for the wonderful readers here on my blog! I am a big fan of your work, and fell in love with your writing from the first book in the “With Me in Seattle” series. Today, I’m going to ask you some questions about your writing, your books, and you in general? Does this sound good? Here we go!
- Can you tell us how you started writing? Was it something you always wanted to do? Or did it just come to you one day somewhat randomly? I've always been a writer, and in fact when I was working my "other job" and someone would ask me if I could do ANYTHING in the world, what would it be, I would say I want to be a romance novelist. Well, here I am!
- What about the “With Me In Seattle” series? Did you plan it out from the beginning, or did you go with the flow as you wrote? I knew how they would meet at the beginning, but after that I just went with the flow. :)
- Did you always plan on it being a series? Or did you fall in love with the characters and the story that you just wanted to continue it? I never intended this to be a series. I just had Luke and Nat in my head, and then I started meeting all of the Montgomery and Williams brothers, and I just knew that they would all need their own story!
- Who is your favorite character in your novel, “Rock With Me”? It's a tie between Leo and Sam. They were both equally challenging for me, and I fell in love with both of them.
- Did you have any inspiration behind creating Leo? Is anything about him based on someone is your life? Leo is a completely fictitious character, but physically he is very similar to the model on the cover, Sulan Von Zoomlander.
- What about Sam? Is she (or anything about her) based on someone in your life? I know it's boring, but all of my characters are completely conjured from my imagination.
- As you wrote this series, did you plan on which characters would end up having their own story? I knew after writing Come Away With Me that there would be seven books and a novella.
- Which book is your favorite in the “With Me In Seattle” series? My favorite is always the one I'm currently working on.
- Can you tell us what motivates you to keep writing when you hit a wall? Do you try to write through it? Or do you walk away and come back later? The trick is to write through it. I do admit there are days I throw my hands up, grab a pint of ice cream and a bottle of wine and decide that I'll never write another word worth reading, but by the next day I know that I just need to power through.
- Can you tell us one random thing about you most of your readers don’t know? I'm a huge fan of sweet tea. Huge. It's a drug.
- I am in the middle of writing my own New Adult Contemporary Romance book. Any advice you can give an aspiring author? Write every day, even if it's only a few sentences.
- Do you have a favorite book or author? Maybe a few? I know it’s hard to pick just one...or even to pick just ten! My all-time favorite author, for the past twenty years, is Nora Roberts.
- Is there anything you can tell us about your upcoming work? Any teasers that are available already? Any hints? Well, I think that everyone knows that the next book in the With Me In Seattle series is Safe With Me, Caleb and Brynna's story. I don't have any snippets or teasers available quite yet.
- What is one question that you wish someone would ask you in an interview? Would you like one shot of tequila, or two? ;)
- Do you listen to music while you write? If so, what kind? I ALWAYS listen to music while I write! Music is an important element of my stories. I usually listen to Pandora, set to Maroon5, Sara Bareiles, and Christina Perri stations.
- How do you balance your writing time with your everyday responsibilities? It's a tight rope, to be honest. When my hubs gives me "the look" that says that I've spent too much time snuggled up with the computer I know it's time to step away for a while. I've also given in and recently hired a brilliant publicist and personal assistant to help free up some time that I can use toward writing or dedicating to my family
