Twenty-seven year old Carrie Thompson-Sherman has the life she always wanted: her PhD, a prestigious fellowship, and an amazing husband.

Her life begins to unravel as a jealous colleague puts her fellowship in jeopardy and a haunting secret Ray Sherman carried home from Afghanistan comes to light.

Hounded by a federal investigation and the ensuing media feeding frenzy, Carrie and Ray desperately lean on each other, until a disastrous accident puts both Ray and her sister's lives at risk.

In the last hour, Carrie and Ray will each find themselves faced with a choice.

A choice that will change everything.

Author’s Favorite Quotes from The Last Hour
Part 2
By Charles Sheehan-Miles

Do these people have no respect at all?

In the midst of what is a very heavy book with a lot of deep themes in it, I tried to have some light moments.  This line happens when Sarah discovers that the surgeons are playing New Kids on the Block while operating.  I took a little bit of heat from my beta readers over that.

Ray just said, “Those weren’t the cards we drew, baby. But we’ll meet it together.”

Ray and Carrie’s mantra is that no matter what happens because of the terrible challenges they face, they’ll meet those challenges hand in hand. A big part of the story I wanted to tell was how important love is for redemption and courage.

I’m waiting for you, soldier.

So, this is my number one favorite from the story.  I usually go to bed thinking about what I’m going to write the next morning, and one night early in the writing of this book a scene popped into my head. I only had the one line, and honestly it brought tears to my eyes.  I still can’t read that section of the story without getting a little sniffly.

    1. I love when an author gets so into their story too. When an author is that invested, you know it'll be a good book!
