Synopsis
via Goodreads:
Caleb is a man with a singular interest in revenge. Kidnapped as a young boy and sold into slavery by a power-hungry mobster, he has thought of nothing but vengeance. For twelve years he has immersed himself in the world of pleasure slaves searching for the one man he holds ultimately responsible. Finally, the architect of his suffering has emerged with a new identity, but not a new nature. If Caleb is to get close enough to strike, he must become the very thing he abhors and kidnap a beautiful girl to train her to be all that he once was.
Eighteen-year-old Olivia Ruiz has just woken up in a strange place. Blindfolded and bound, there is only a calm male voice to welcome her. His name is Caleb, though he demands to be called Master. Olivia is young, beautiful, naïve and willful to a fault. She has a dark sensuality that cannot be hidden or denied, though she tries to accomplish both. Although she is frightened by the strong, sadistic, and arrogant man who holds her prisoner, what keeps Olivia awake in the dark is her unwelcome attraction to him.
WARNING: This book contains very disturbing situations, dubious consent, strong language, and graphic violence.

My Review:
This 4.5 STAR story is one of darkness and sex. There is an untraditional romance going on here. If you can even call it a romance, actually! Without giving too much away...just imagine meeting a man that you can picture yourself being with...someone that immediately sparked your interest...only to find out he's really you're worst nightmare. He's the guy that holds your fate in his hands.
There's somewhat of a Stockholm Syndrome going on with the main character. I don't really know if that would apply here if the feeling began before the kidnapping though.
I cannot wait to read book two, "Seduced in the Dark" and also the "Epilogue." The way "Captive in the Dark" ended, I was left with the perfect balance of satisfaction and anticipation. There was a cliff hanger, but I didn't feel like it took away from my fulfillment of the story. Sometimes cliff hangers can ruin the book, but that wasn't the case here.
As screwed up as these characters were...I actually really enjoyed them. I don't condone Caleb's actions and behavior at all...but it makes for a good story! I read some reviews before writing mine, so I just want to make it clear to people who are reading my review right now, before they buy the book. A lot of people are giving this book 1 star because they don't like the sex and violence. It's made pretty clear that this book is all about that. So, I am telling you right now, if you are completely against that thing in your books...then don't read this. Yeah, I'm against it and don't support it in real life...but this is a book. And this book is great!
4.5 STARS!
Happy Reading!

My Review:
S.C. Stephens is an amazing writer! She has a wonderful way with words, and I enjoy everything she writes. I loved book one, Thoughtless, and book two did not disappoint. It lived right up to my expectations. If it was even possible, I fell even more in love with these characters. All of them! But...especially Kellan!
Ahhh, Kellan! A book boyfriend favorite! He is just soooo yummy. Not only is he absolutely stunning, but he is extremely talented. I love his personality and I love his loyalty. He loves Kiera soo much. Kiera rocks too. I love her character, and I love her and Kellan together. They're just perfect. Even though I liked Denny, there is just no comparison to the chemistry between Kiera and Kellan. Their chemistry is palpable. The emotions are so strong and intense. It makes me want a relationship like theirs.
EFFORTLESS had different drama than book one, but it still definitely had it's fair share of drama. This time, the drama wasn't caused by the love triangle, but it stemmed from trust issues because of the original love triangle. Kellan and Kiera fell in love while Kiera was with Denny. Denny was Kellan's best friend. So needless to say, they didn't exactly fall in love under honorable conditions, so it's understandable that they would have trust issues with each other.
I loved watching Kellan get his chance at being big. As much as I enjoyed him at Pete's...it was nice that he got to go on the road. He earned it. I love the whole band too. Not just Kellan. I loved Griffin, Evan, and Matt. I loved all of Kiera's friends too. I just loved the characters!
I would highly recommend this series to fans of Rockstars and Romance. If you enjoy New Adult Contemporary Romance, than read this book. I cannot wait to read RECKLESS, book three of this trilogy. I want Kellan and Kiera to finally get their happily ever after that they deserve!
I'm a lifetime fan of S.C. Stephens and I will continue to read anything she writes! I look forward to more!
