Author’s Take on Bo from Unspoken
By Jen Frederick
When I planned this series of five books (probably going to be 6 now), I knew I wanted to start with Bo and Noah. They came as a pair. Noah was serious, dark haired, and committed. A thinker and a planner. Bo was his opposite in everything. He’s got blond hair (all natural, he tells AnnMarie) and a sunny attitude which really is a disguise for how he feels about life. In deleted text, I described Bo as wearing a false face all the time. Smile and no one ever asks you what’s wrong. He hates answering that question because it makes him think of all the shitty things he’s done in his life.
Bo is driven by instinct. If it feels good, he does it. He likes fighting because of the adrenaline rush. He likes sex for the same reason. He doesn’t like attachments. He focuses all of his energy on the here and now. Some sad girl needs cheering up, Bo’s the man for that. He’ll even hold a girl afterward, but don’t expect a phone call the next day. He tells AM that this is because he doesn’t believe he has it in him to make a serious commitment.
Having said that, he has a pretty clear idea of what love is and isn’t. Up until he meets AnnMarie, though, he doesn’t believe he’ll ever have that in his life. After he falls for AnnMarie, Bo is afraid that all his past misdeeds will drive her away. But in AnnMarie, Bo finds something worth fighting for.
For four years, Grace Sullivan wrote to a Marine she never met, and fell in love. But when his deployment ended, so did the letters. Ever since that day, Grace has been coasting, academically and emotionally. The one thing she's decided? No way is Noah Jackson - or any man - ever going to break her heart again.
Noah has always known exactly what he wants out of life. Success. Stability. Control. That's why he joined the Marines and that's why he's fighting his way - literally - through college. Now that he's got the rest of his life on track, he has one last conquest: Grace Sullivan. But since he was the one who stopped writing, he knows that winning her back will be his biggest battle yet.
